Korcula and Orebic
Croatia

Korcul (corchula) is an island south-west of Hvar. The main town is also named Korcula, and in August there is standing room only. I got off of the ferry and towed my suitcase to the nearest youth hostel. There one young man explained that I might not want to stay there as they tended to party quite loudly all night long. After being awake for 36 hours straight, I had to agree with him. The manager, (another young man) saw me and pompously told me that no one over the age of 30 was allowed in, and would I please leave before he kicke my ass out the door. I said not to worry, I really need a place to sleep, and that by the way, I was only 39. I don't think he beleived me.

All of the towers have been bisected by the eleveted walkway that circles the old town.

I took a water taxi to the town of Orebic on the penninsula, where the local tourist inofrmation office set me up with a family to stay with. These bright and happy looking people were my fellow passengers

This is the taxi tied up at the dock in Orebic, with the limestone karst that forms the backbone of the penninsula in the background.

Just south of the town is the only sandy beach I found in Croatia

And it comes with a guy in a small boat who motors up to the beach and sells produce out of his boat
